The initial Part 107 knowledge test (UAG) gets you the certificate. Recurrent training is how you keep the privilege to act as remote PIC. It is not a second PSI appointment for most pilots, and it is not TRUST.

24 calendar months, not 2 years
14 CFR 107.65 requires current aeronautical knowledge within the previous 24 calendar months before you act as remote PIC. Calendar months run to the last day of the month. If you completed recurrent training on July 5, 2025, you remain current through July 31, 2027—not July 5, 2027.

- Finish eligible training or testing before you fly if you are outside that window.
- Completing recurrent early starts a new 24-calendar-month window from that completion date.

How most remote pilots stay current
- Sign in at FAASafety.gov and complete the Part 107 Small UAS Recurrent course. ALC-677 is available to any Part 107 certificate holder.
- Follow the course’s training-credit steps so completion actually posts to your account.
- Download and keep the certificate of completion. Recency is your responsibility to prove—not an automatic stamp on the plastic card.
If you also hold a Part 61 pilot certificate with a current flight review, the FAA Become a Drone Pilot page lists the matching sUAS course. When in doubt, ALC-677 still satisfies recency for a Part 107 remote PIC. Confirm the current course list on that FAA page before you enroll.
TRUST is not Part 107 recency
TRUST is The Recreational UAS Safety Test. It applies to the recreational flying exception. It does not replace Part 107 recurrent training, and a current Part 107 certificate does not replace TRUST if you are flying under recreational rules that require it.
If recency lapses
- Do not act as remote PIC under Part 107 until you complete eligible recurrent training or testing.
- Your Remote Pilot Certificate is still issued; the pause is the PIC privilege, not an automatic cancellation.
- You do not have to retake the initial UAG at a PSI center just because the window closed—unless you choose that recency path.

How often is Part 107 recurrent training required?
To act as remote PIC, you must meet aeronautical knowledge recency within the previous 24 calendar months. The deadline is the last day of that 24th month, not the same calendar day two years later.
Is TRUST the same as Part 107 recurrent training?
No. TRUST (The Recreational UAS Safety Test) is for the recreational flying exception. Part 107 recency is a separate requirement for certificated Remote Pilots. Passing TRUST does not keep your Part 107 privileges current.
Does my Remote Pilot Certificate expire if I miss recurrent training?
No. Missing recency pauses your privilege to act as remote PIC. It does not automatically cancel the certificate. Complete eligible recurrent training or testing before you fly under Part 107 again.
Can I complete Part 107 recurrent training online?
Yes. Most certificate holders complete the FAA’s free online recurrent course on FAASafety.gov (ALC-677 works for any Part 107 remote pilot). Keep the completion certificate with your records.
Do I have to retake the UAG at a PSI center to stay current?
Usually not. Online recurrent training is the typical path. Passing a recurrent knowledge test at a testing center also meets recency, but most remote pilots use the free FAASafety.gov course instead of another PSI appointment.
