Part 107 night operations and flying over people

Night flying and operations over people are two of the most tested “can I do this?” topics on the Part 107 knowledge test. Both hinge on specific regulatory conditions—not gut feel.

Night operations

• Know civil twilight vs night for timing questions.
• Anti-collision lighting must be visible for the distance required by the rule.
• Remote Pilot training/recency for night is a common exam detail—do not skip it.
• Night does not erase airspace authorization or Remote ID duties.

Operations over people

Part 107 categories limit kinetic energy and injury risk for operations over people. Exam questions often describe an aircraft or scenario and ask which operations are allowed. Learn the category labels and what each permits rather than memorizing marketing claims from manufacturers.

Moving vehicles add another constraint set. If a scenario mixes night, people, and vehicles, solve one constraint at a time.
