Remote ID requirements for Part 107

Remote ID is how many UAS broadcast identity and location in flight. For Part 107 Remote Pilots, the knowledge test expects you to know when Remote ID applies, what “standard Remote ID” means, and that it is separate from airspace authorization.

Remote ID is not ADS-B

• Standard Remote ID is built into the aircraft (or an approved module) and broadcasts required messages.
• Broadcast modules add Remote ID to aircraft that do not have it built in.
• ADS-B Out does not satisfy Remote ID requirements—treat that as a common exam trap.
• When using standard Remote ID or a broadcast module, the aircraft serial number belongs on the Certificate of Aircraft Registration.

If equipment fails in flight

If standard Remote ID fails during flight, land as soon as practicable. Do not invent a “notify ATC and keep flying” workaround. FRIAs and aeronautical-research approvals are narrow exceptions—know they exist, then default to Remote ID required in most airspace.
